Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

· Online e-learning component is a compulsory part of course assessment and may be completed before a Statement of Attainment can be issued.

· A course may be rescheduled one time only and must be completed within one month of cancellation. Rescheduling fee of $15.00 will apply.

· Course fees are non-refundable.

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that can lead to death. With urgent medical care to restart the heart, survival is possible.

Quick decision-making to recognise and assess a cardiac emergency, call for medical assistance, and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures will increase the chance of survival for a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally.

In this CPR course, you will learn these skills, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to rotate first aiders with minimal interruptions to compressions, and what to do if the casualty regurgitates or vomits.

The course also covers conveying accurate incident details when handing the casualty over to emergency services, how to review an incident, to recognize any psychological impacts on self and other rescuers, seek help if required, and improve of own personal skills and response times.

Course Content:

· Recognise and assess an emergency situation

· Assess the casualty and recognise the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation

· Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with ARC guidelines

· Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response

· Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles

· Monitor the condition of the casualty and respond in accordance with First Aid principles

· Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED)

· Operate First Aid equipment

· Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
